Artsmark Journey

Welcome to our Artsmark Journey

We are currently working towards the Artsmark award with the aim of helping our school to develop and celebrate arts and cultural education. We aim to give our children opportunities to experience performing arts - dance, drama, music, literature and poetry, storytelling and the visual arts education with a focus on film, craft, design, digital arts, media and photography. These are taught through exciting and new projects. On this page, you will find information on some of our arts projects within the school and the wider community.

As a school, we are aiming to enhance the arts curriculum and the experience of the children by:

- taking part in high-quality, creative arts projects.

- Bring exciting opportunities by working with a variety of arts organisations and professionals

- Strengthening pupil voice and opinions

- Provide professional development for all staff

- Celebrate the achievements of all our pupils

ROYAL OPERA HOUSE PROJECT

During the summer of 2021, our year 5 children took part in an art and design project for the Royal Opera House in London. Their task was to design and create a new 'set' for one of the scenes from their ballet - 'The Adventures of Alice'. The children took part in many art forms including; acting, listening to music, sketching, painting and creating textured mood boards to help them with their final designs.  They readily participated in challenges that took them out of their comfort zones: silent role play, interviewing in front of a camera, creating an atmosphere on a mood board to reflect their chosen scene, working to a time limit and sketching with their non-dominant hands and feet! Professional set designers from the Royal Opera House shared their tips and techniques with the children on how to make a model box (on a scale of 1:50) for a scene within the ballet. Finally, the children reflected and presented their final designs to other schools across the Elliott Trust, watched part of the ballet and achieved a Trinity Arts Award Explore certificate, an Entry Level (Entry 3) qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework.

VIKING MEDIA PROJECT

Our year 4 students worked with 20Twenty productions on a fun and creative media project during the Summer of 2021. The children used their newfound digital skills in a multitude of ways, presenting a news report using video cameras, lighting, sound, green screening and communication skills.
