History is continued through exciting topics. In Year 3, children imagine the earliest periods of History from the Stone Age to the Iron Age in the UK. They continue to learn about significant invasions from the Romans and how that shaped some of Britain’s past. Children also find out about the Anglo Saxons invasions and kingdoms; place names and village life, Anglo Saxon art and culture. Year 4 continue discovering about invaders through the topic of Vikings. Year 5 and 6, learn about some of the achievements of the earliest civilizations; with an in depth study on Ancient Egypt. The European History of Ancient Greece, researching Greek life and achievements and their influence on the western world and a non-European society that provides contrasts with British history, the Mayan civilization.
Through History children compare aspects of life today with that of the past. Various artefacts and memorabilia such as books, photographs and visitors etc. are regularly used, and children have the opportunity to visit museums and places of interest to enhance their learning.
As a way to help children develop their understanding of chronology and solidify their learning, we have created a timeline display, complete with examples of the children's work. The timeline shows all the topics we cover in our curriculum and pieces of work that have been completed within that topic.
